ABOUT US

How We Work

Mission

Our Mission is to create self-reliance and socio-economic prosperity among marginalized communities through deployment of integrated approaches to socio-economic and environmental challenges facing them and provision of access to resources and opportunities for a sustainable and high quality of life.

We bring together data driven, locally developed, real-world solutions, policy expertise, and sustainable financing to achieve sustainable development in ASALs through collaborative partnerships.

In our commitment to achieving sustainable development in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), we emphasize the integration of gender and climate dimensions as vital components of our approach. We believe that sustainable development cannot be attained without addressing the unique challenges and opportunities presented by gender dynamics and climate change in ASAL regions.

Vision

Where We Work

Many of the ASAL areas in Kenya are characterized by profound infrastructural deficits such as access to tarmac roads, clean water and sanitation amenities, proper and adequately equipped health and educational facilities, electricity and other social amenities. Decades of systemic marginalization, poorly conceived policies, and skewed resource allocation have perpetuated these disparities, resulting in significant social and economic exclusion, extreme poverty and underdevelopment for the people living in the region. These challenges have also heightened vulnerability of the local communities to impacts of climate change impacts, leading to increased food insecurity, deaths of livestock and people, and human suffering.

IIGSD is a youth led charitable entity borne out of the numerous socio-economic, environmental, and political challenges facing marginalized and indigenous communities in the broader Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) in Kenya. IIGSD intends to employ integrated, climate resilient and sustainable approaches based on global experiences and successes to food security, economic empowerment, financial inclusion, environmental conservation, water and sanitation, ecotourism, health, education, indigenous resources and knowledge utilization, legal education, and access to justice to create a sustainable and high quality life for all marginalized people in the ASALs.
